Dutch website Sprout reports that the new investors include the following entrepreneurs: Janneke Niessen (Improve Digital, Inspiring Fifty); Aletta Stas-Bax (Frederique Constant); and the Participation Fund Sustainable Economy North Holland (PDENH).

The Next Closet said in a press release that about 20 percent of custom is made in Belgium. Additionally, the company said that there are more sellers than buyers in Belgium, which it believes will make the marketplace supply more attractive. Furthermore, figures have shown that Belgian consumers spend more on fashion than Dutch consumers.

By entering the Belgian market, the retailer will also expand its range to offer Belgian designers such as Dries van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester, Christian Wijnants, Raf Simons, Natan and Delvaux. The platform will also partner with Belgian influencers.

The Next Closet was launched in 2013 by Dutch entrepreneurs Lieke Pijpers and Thalita van Ogtrop. The retailer offers vintage designer clothing and also helps customers sell designer clothing via its online marketplace.

The Next Closet aims to innovate the vintage clothing industry to become more sustainable.
