The 74th International Venice Film Festival kicked off on Wednesday, August 30, with the screening of "Downsizing" featuring Matt Damon, Christoph Waltz, and Kristen Wiig. On the red carpet at the opening ceremony, there were sheath dresses as well as feathers and sequins. Most of the celebrities adopted glamorous looks, but in mainly sober colors.

Actresses, female members of the jury and models were chic and sophisticated for the opening ceremony, but no one tried to raise the temperature on the red carpet. There were no plunging necklines, soaring splits or micro mini dresses at the first screening, which was marked by sober glamorous looks.

Nude, pale pink and white were everywhere at this first evening, as evidenced by Anna Mouglalis's long sheath dress which was decorated with beads and feathers. Kristen Wiig also opted for pale colors with her elaborately embroidered dress, while Jasmine Trinca chose white for a long-sleeved dress that played on transparency. Also wearing white, Bianca Balti stood out in a short kimono worn under a tone-on-tone split tulle skirt.

Length was also the order of the day for Desiree Noferini, Renata Kuerten, Eleonora Carisi, and Hong Chau, who took to the carpet in black gowns, decorated with lace, feathers, embroidery and tulle.
