The world’s leading home furnishings retailer Ikea has announced a new fashion collaboration as part of an ongoing effort to cater to fashion-conscious consumers.

Bea Åkerlund - Ikea

Following collaborations with British fashion designer Kit Neale, French multi-brand retailer Colette and America fashion designer Chris Stamp, Ikea has now brought in fashion stylist and activist Bea Åkerlund to create a collection of bold home décor pieces.

The LA-based Swedish creative is a costume designer and stylist who has dressed high-profile celebrities and musicians including Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Madonna and Fergie.

The collection, designed in collaboration with Ikea’s design team, explores how two decades of working behind the scenes styling Hollywood icons could inspire and evolve in a collection of products for the home.

The assortment, called Omedelbar, is a collection of products that challenge conventions in both style and dimensions.

“With Omedelbar we want to celebrate individuality and encourage empowerment through expression for young people. Bea is such a great role model and really is proof that hard work and a great “nothing is impossible” attitude can take you anywhere you want. Dressing up, both yourself and your home, should be fun and just like fashion accessories, a few statement pieces in your home decoration can be used to enhance or elevate a look,” says Ikea creative leader Karin Gustavsson.

“For me to get the chance to create a collection together with Ikea and be able to share my vision with the world, is a dream come true. I am a creature that gravitates to things high & low so the fact that I can create products that are accessible to everyone is golden”, adds Bea Åkerlund.

The limited collection Omedelbar will launch during spring 2018.
