Pretty Vulgar makeup debuts at Sephora

Cosmetics brands can take years to gain a coveted spot at mega-retailer Sephora. But new kid on the block Pretty Vulgar will be launching its first-ever collection at the beauty behemoth, and already has the buzz on social media to match.

The vintage-inspired makeup line makes its debut today with 81 products launching at Sephora stores. The Pretty Vulgar collection will include products for face, eyes and lips, including the Feathers Mascara, On Point Liquid Eyeliner Pen and various lip formulas like Bury Them With A Smile Matte Lipstick and My Lips Are Sealed Liquid Lipstick. All of the products are permanent to the line, with the exception of the eye shadow palettes, which are limited edition.
 
But besides the products themselves, many beauty bloggers have also taken note of the brand’s unique packaging. The line takes a vintage and whimsical approach to its packaging, such as a mascara housed in a birdcage-inspired tube and lipstick cases wrapped in prints mimicking vintage wallpaper. As the name implies, the brand isn’t afraid of being a bit over the top. “We wanted to create a brand that embraces and embodies the contradictions that exist in us all,” Lewis Farsedakis, founder and CEO of Pretty Vulgar, says.

The bird imagery is used in both the branding and colors of the makeup line. The Nightingale eye shadow palette, for example, utilizes smoky colors suitable for evening, and lipsticks feature a bird imprint on the bullet. Farsedakis says the brand will change up its imagery in future collections however. “We have many other themes lined up, ensuring that the brand will evolve, staying fresh and relevant for years to come.”
 
Prices are in keeping with many of Sephora’s other brands, with mascara going for $24 and eye shadow palettes sold for $35. The line is available in Sephora stores and online.
