Amazon highlighted once more its ambitions in fashion by poaching L'Oréal Paris' brand ambassador Barbara Palvin and turning her into the face of a press, web and social media campaign that will launch Europe-wide on 29th September.

The Hungarian model is famous for having worked for Giorgio Armani, Vince Camuto and Cartier, and was photographed by Cass Bird at the Amazon Fashion studio in London. The photo shoot produced a series of understated images, featuring Barbara Palvin in several Autumn/Winter 2016 looks, notably including an A-line buttoned leather skirt by Philippa K and a frilled shirt by Paul && Joe. The core concept is "Don't follow my style, create yours."

Though the U.S. distribution giant does not provide detailed figures, it regularly indicates that fashion, one of its leading categories, is one of its priorities. A sponsor of the men's fashion weeks in New York and Tokyo, and of the Amazon Fashion Week India, in 2017 the American web giant could become the number one clothing retailer in the U.S., according to a survey by Cowen & Company published last May.

In 2015, Amazon generated sales for $107 billion (€93.9 billion), equivalent to a 20% rise, and a 26% one at constant exchange rates. Net income rose to $596 million, compared to a $214 million loss in 2014.
