Coolcat said that collaboration will be an important opportunity for the retailer to speak to its target group. In addition to working with Bas Kosters, the company will soon announce upcoming collaborations with well-known names in design, entertainment and sports.

The collection by Bas Kosters is named The Hacking Coolcat and features a cat from the retailer’s brand logo of the '80s and '90s. The range includes hoodies, denim jackets, bomber jackets, denim skirts, jeans, t-shirts, leggings, and accessories. The collection is available for men, women and children and retails between €9.99 for hair accessories and €89.99 for a bomber jacket.

Lilian Vos, CEO at Coolcat, said about the collection: “[The collection] is based on a logo that reflects the legacy of our stores and our brand. Bas has done something very special with it. His work is explicit, not modest and urban; qualifications that fit well with the work of Bas and the DNA of our brand.”

Bas Kosters, fashion designer, added: “The [Coolcat logo] cat is an icon from my childhood. Back then, I thought it was a cool symbol and the DNA of the Coolcat stores. So, I was honored to work with Coolcat on a revival of the cat. The cat had to make a comeback. The Hacking Coolcat collection therefore means more than just a fashion collection to me.”

Coolcat was founded in 1982 in Amsterdam by Roland Kahn. Today, the retailer operates 110 stores in the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Luxembourg in addition to e-tail and platform collaborations in the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Germany. The retailer is part of Coolinvestments, which also owns plus-size brand M&S Mode; multi-brand store America Today; and lingerie brand Sapph.

Bas Kosters launched his design career in 2003, following a Master’s degree in fashion design at ArtEZ in Arnhem. His work is known for the use of color and graphics such as the character of 'the TV man', who regularly appears in his designs. In April, Kosters was awarded the Cultuurfonds Mode Stipendium, the most prestigious fashion award in the Netherlands.

The Hacking Coolcat is available at the Coolcat online store from Wednesday 26 September. The collection will be available in stores the following day.
