Edinburgh-based luxury handbag brand Strathberry, which counts Lady Gaga, Natalie Dormer and the Duchess of Sussex among its fans, has signed a deal to open a boutique in London’s Burlington Arcade.

While the company has a showroom in Edinburgh, the new venture will be its first ever standalone location. It's due to open on November 5.

Founded in Scotland in 2013, Strathberry has enjoyed a major boost of late after Meghan Markle was seen carrying its bags at a number of public engagements. The Duchess of Sussex chose to carry one of the label’s core styles on her first royal engagement in Nottingham back in December last year, prompting the £495 tote bag to sell out in 11 minutes. Since then, she has been spotted carrying Strathberry bags in Dublin and Edinburgh.

At the Burlington Arcade, Strathberry will join an interesting group of luxury brands, which also include fragrance brand Penhaligon’s, footwear label Manolo Blahnik, lingerie label La Perla and Chanel.

The new store will feature the brand’s new East/West collection, and illustrator Jennifer Darr will offer a personalisation service with the option to paint customers’ initials and other designs on their bags throughout December.

Guy Hundleby, co-founder of Strathberry, said: ”With its historical significance, warm ambiance and energy, Burlington Arcade captures the spirit of Strathberry and is the perfect setting for the unveiling of this next chapter in our brand’s story.”
