Five years after its launch, Reed Krakoff risks extinction. The contemporary luxury brand founded in 2010 by American designer Reed Krakoff, who was artistic director of the leather goods brand Coach at the time, announced in a statement his intention to "suspend all future design and production, while continuing to operate its Greene Street and Woodbury Commons stores, as well as the reedkrakoff.com e-commerce site."

Reed Krakoff had created his brand within the Coach group. He then bought it in September 2013, stepping down as creative director of Coach to focus on his label. He explained to WWD that he suspended all of his brand’s operations to "refocus on the accessible luxury segment of the accessories market."

According to the American magazine, Reed Krakoff is in financial difficulty and its Madison Avenue store should close within a few weeks.

In a statement, the company says that it is now "reviewing all strategic options for the brand, which may include production and distribution partnerships or a sale of the business and the brand."
